Tribute to Hilda Mason, 1916-2007: Leader for Justice & DC Statehood, Former DC Councilmember

Update:  The memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, 4606 - 16th Street NW, Washington, Free DC!

 
The Great Champion of DC Statehood has passed.

Hilda Howland Minnis Mason, DC Statehood advocate, former DC Council member and "Grandmother to the World" passed away this morning at 7:15 A.M. at the Washington Hospital Center.

Funeral services will be conducted by Cook & Minnis Funeral Home at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lynch Station, VA. Hilda will be interred at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery where her parents and most of her siblings and her grandson are interred. (Latest: services will held of Saturday Dec. 22 and funeral on Sunday Dec. 23 noon)

 

The members of Stand Up! mourn the loss of Ms. Mason, and we will forever honor her for her devotion and works for DC Statehood and for her lifetime of hard work for the good of all. Adding these unselfish achievements to her generous financial and moral support, you'll understand how special is her legacy!
